Meshuggah – Catch Thirtythree

Review# 188

I wouldn't recommend listening to this album on shuffle, it will make no sense. Catch Thirtythree, while broken down into individual tracks is really just one giant piece of music with the only bit you can kind of pull out to stand alone being the track Shed which they also released a video for. All of the drums are programmed using the drum-kit from hell software which is all samples created from Tomas Haake's own drum kit. Considering I know that Tomas can play the drums freakishly well live I guess the programming was more to make sure the crazy drumming was absolutely perfect coz if it wasn't it could bollocks the whole lot. The album is very experimental, which is saying a lot for a band already considered experimental, but it plays a lot more with dynamics and waves of sound than on a "standard" album.
