Free Jazz (serious review)

Okay, so now I’ve heard this a couple of times it’s starting to make a little more sense. The album is still highly avant-garde and challenging but it’s a little less daunting. Only a little.

The album is played by two quartets, one in each stereo channel improvising independently of each other, which gives the impression that they are just going over the top of each other. The is some structure, a couple of themes occur in each channel and some of the instruments solo at the same time. Overall though it’s still pretty complicated listening although I’m thoroughly looking forward to hearing much more of it as time goes by.
