Michael Jackson - Thriller

It seems like everyone in primary school went through a Michael Jackson phase at some stage. I, however, was too busy living in the sixties to pay any attention to what was going on at the time. So anyways, after the posthumous career revival has died down a wee bit this seems like an appropriate time to check out a Michael Jackson album finally. I’ve never listened to this album but from all understanding it’s supposed to be the best. We’ll see.

The first thing I’ve noticed is that his voice is actually pretty good. And he has fun with what he’s doing, which is one of the most important elements of pop music. The album is definitely a product of its time (AGES AGO), which some pretty dated synth work going on, but thankfully no 80s drums. You know, the ones which sound like a machine?

The production on the album is actually pretty nice apart from the fact it’s an absolute relic. It’s well recorded and it’s a relatively smooth listen. It’s enjoyable enough and doesn’t take itself as seriously as most of the other music I listen to which is a nice change of pace. Top parts are the main singles, Billy Jean, Beat It, Vincent Price Talking and Paul McCartney and Michael arguing over a girl. I’m assuming Paul won, but Jacko got the Beatles publishing rights instead. Paul get’s the girl but he has to pay to sing Hey Jude in the shower.
