Dethklok – The Dethalbum

Review# 87

Soundtracks are more often than not average or worse. Usually a bunch of songs cobbled together with little cohesive order and only make sense in the context of the movie/show. Not so with Dethklok's Dethalbum. The soundtracks to the, frankly amazing, Adult Swim animated series Metalocalypse are performed by the very band you see in the show... The best band in the world, the one that fans will sign agreements that they won't sue should they die or sustain brutal injury anywhere near the band (and that happens a lot)... Dethklok.

What makes this work as an actual metal album is that Brendan Small, co-creator of Metalocalypse, is actually a bloody good and entertaining musician and he is backed up by the incredible Gene Hoglan of Strapping Young Lad/Fear Factory etc fame on drums. The lyrics are absurd but in the way that you know that they were specifically created to be and actually pretty clever at making mundane themes Metal. The Dethalbum is an incredibly fun and enjoyable piece of work although I must admit if you haven't watched the series if may not make a lot of sense!
