Slipknot – Slipknot

Review# 67

Slipknot's debut album is a landmark, dropping in 1999 and completely rearranging peoples faces. This 18-legged monster marched in with this brutal album, with a sound unlike anything anyone else was doing at the time and has ever really managed to do since. This is an aggressive album from a band who were frustrated and worn down by their home Des Moines Iowa which is a big theme in slipknot's music.
When this album was released the band would only be seen in their matching boiler suits and a mask created by the member to reflect themselves. They also referred to each other as a number between 0-8 further adding to their impact.

The Nine have created what will likely be one of the most long standing and landmark albums in metal, and in fact it has that reputation already. It is brutal, violent, sick and creepy. There is a lot of emotion on this album even if most of it is anger. The band play with sounds to get the right feelings; Scissors is a fantastic example of this - it is a fantastically creepy song.

If you can, get the version of the album with the bonus stuff on it, there are some good tracks added on as well as an audio clip of the band watching something well disgusting "pretend it's pudding, just pretend it's pudding!"
