Review# 19
Apocalyptica are a Finnish band comprised of 3 cellists (all graduates of the Sebelius Academy in Helsinki) and a drummer. They started off as a Metallica covers band doing the pub eventually the demand for them got to the point where they started writing their own music and now days other artists are lining up to collaborate with them for their albums.
Worlds Collide has a number of Metal luminaries making guest apperences; Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Christina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Adam Gontier (Three Days Grace), Till Lindemann (Rammstein). And that's just album. Bringing in all of the different artists really gives a good feel to the album. Everyone sounds like they are having fun and it brings a nice element to the album. One thing about Apocalyptica that you don't quite get until you have seen them live is how heavy and “Metal” they really are. But these boys can bring it.
I'm Not Jesus is probably the most stand out track on the album, a large portion of that is simply by virtue of Corey Taylor's vocal work. Although the cover of David Bowie's Hero's, sung by Till Lindmann with a guitar solo performed by Richard Kruspe (also Rammsetin), is also fantastic and are probably the best two tracks with Vocals. Of the strictly Apocalyptica tracks Ion and Stroke are killer tracks. I am also partial to Last Hope, with Dave Lombardo on drums and Grace with a Japanese guitarist by the name of Tomoyasu Hotei.
Overall it's a solid album but I could easily do without S.O.S (Anything but Love) and I Don't Care, or I would at least be happy without the guest vocals and some more detailed lead cello lines.
