Review# 41
The opening bars to War Pigs are classic, they are some of the most memorable opening bars in Classic Rock/Metal history. This album has been rated as one of the most influencial in Metal history and from what I have read will always make it into at least the top 100 but more often than not will be in the top 20. Of the 8 tracks only 2 are not well known outside of the Black Sabbath hard core fans, War Pigs, Paranoid, Planet Caravan, Iron Man, Electric Funeral and Fairies Wear Boots are all well known tracks and feature on a large portion of Best Of releases. And then Hand Of Doom is arguably on that list too.... leaving Rat Salad as the “unknown' track which is almost unfair but maybe has a more “Cult” following?
What can you really say about an album that has been certified as four times platnim and is a cornerstone influence of a large portion of mordern Metal Heads? It is literaly a fantastic album, there is nothihng to it. Josh I know you would love me to talk about different pressings and editions and that is fair enough, I wish I had more of them to do so! But one way or another the songs are awesome and while they have a certain 1970's feel to them you really can't deny the appeal of this album one way or another nor the influence, which in this instance is more important to me personaly.
Two of my favourite Sabbath tracks are on this album (although I love the lot!), Iron Man and Electric Funeral:
Iron Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LjbMVXj0F8
Electric Funeral: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsLkL8DTHeg
