Gojira – From Mars to Sirius

Review# 9
This is the album that broke these Frenchies from obscurity to the whole world. Gojira hail from the small French village of Ondres where they were they formed their love of the environment and Earth which features heavily as the theme of their lyrics. The foursome take a solid base of Death Metal and add touches of thrash and prog, still they are likely the only band in the Death Metal scene that sings about Life!
The album opens with the sound of whales and cracks straight into Ocean Planet; this track shows off the pinpoint timing that is so familiar in their music... And trust me; they do it just as perfectly live as on a recording. This album chuggs along with aggressive guitar and drum work while Joe Duplantier alternates his vocal styles between the classic growl of Death Metal to a gravelly shout and clean vocals which make the songs themselves much more diverse.
My favourite tracks are defiantly, Backbone, The Heaviest Matter of the Universe, Flying Whales and To Sirius. But the whole album is pretty fucken rad and I can contentedly listen to it start to finish. Also, I love the artwork on this album, it’s so spacey and fantastic =)
