Coheed And Cambria – In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

Review# 51

Second album, third instalment of the Amory Wars. This album there is a step up in the connection of the music to the listener, more passion and energy. Claudio's voice is still a little weird but it is now able to carry the vocals and project them out as well as being carried by much better music. The album has a much stronger Prog feel I guess but has a good dose of Rock for good measure.

Story wise this album is about Claudio (yip, he has written himself in as oner of Coheed and Cambria's offspring... fair enough I guess) emerging from hiding to find that all of his family has been killed. He gets a party together and journeys off to get revenge. Could make a good role playing game! There is even a three song segment about their adventures on a ship called The Camper Velourium.

There are quite a few good tracks on here; the title track, Cuts Marked in the March of Men, Blood Red Summer, The Camper Velourium III: Al the Killer and A Favour House Atlantic for example. There are a few weaker tracks in here too, but nothing quite so boring as on Second Stage. Coheed seem to be trying different styles and sounds to help portray different personalities and situations now. Actually that could be something that could be bothering me about Second Stage, there is no tortured and tormented track to show the emotion that Coheed and Cambria would surely feel at being told they would have to kill their children. Hmmm...
This is a solid album, there is the emotion of the story coming through and it has more connection with the listener as well as being more interesting in general.
