Turbonegro – Party Animals

Review# 17

Before we start lets address something; the name. The name Turbonegro is in fact their way of being anti-racist, one of the founding members Tomas Seltzer once said “ A Turbonegro is a large, well-equipped, armed black male in a fast car, out for vengeance. We are his prophets.” Lead guitarist Euroboy also noted that it is two Latin words meaning fast and black and their music is fast and dark.

Anywho, this album is really a bit of fun. It has ridiculous songs like Blow Me (Like the Wind) and If You See Kaye. They sing about sex and drugs and drinking and they have funny names like Rune Rebellion, Happy-Tom, Pal Pot Pamparius, Euroboy and Hank Von Helvete and they wear funny hats... except Hank who has a cape...and a bondage harness. By the time this album comes around they are middle aged and either having the best time of their lives or a mid-life crisis. I don't care coz this album is just so much fun!

The album starts off with an into from “Stephen Hawking” welcoming you into the Party Zone then kicks into All My Friends Are Dead which was picked up by Jackass's Bam and featured on the show as well as the band if memory serves. There is one “love” song on this album although I am sure If You See Kaye is a song for the sake of it sounding like f.u.c.k.

There are a lot of influences in here; Kiss, Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, Black Flag, Iggy Pop and AC/DC. Turbonegro are not a serious band for the most part but they are a band who are serious about partying and if that sounds like you then check them out... unless you are too serious...
