Rammstein – Sehnsucht

Review# 1
This year both Joshua and I will be listening to an album and writing up a review of it. Every. Day. There is no escape. BUT... there will be videos (of the bands not me! that would just be weird!).... NOTE: I tend to ramble so apologies in advance if I make little sense!

I L.O.V.E this album! It is probably one of my all time fav's AND it is the album that solidified my love of Metal so therefore a fitting start to this New Years challenge!
A large proportion of you will likely know Du Hast, the leading single and the song that launched the band into the spotlight but this album is so much more... it has a fantastic mix of heavy riffs mixed with this crazy synth and the intense emotion of Till Lindmann's vocals are just amazing. The theme of Rammstein's music is a very dark humour to do (predominantly) with sex. Everything from a (reasonably) normal stuff through dominating to sodomy (the song Buck dich actually landed Till [lead vocals] and Flake [keys] in holding cells overnight in the States after they performed it due to the use of a strap on that Till uses to "sodomise" Flake and then sends copious amounts of "spooge" into the audience) and beyond!
One great thing about this album is when you listen to it start to finish without interruption it takes you on a pretty intense and dark journey and flows through a range of emotions. Starting with Sehnsucht which is a fun and (as Rammstein go) light song and slowly getting darker, in the middle you are hit with Spiel mit mir (translates as "play with me" and is more from a child’s point of view..) then Klavier and Alter mann with a very dark sombre feel then launched into the somewhat crazy ending of Eifersucht (which through headphones is so fucken amazing) and Kuss mich (fellfrosch)(translates as kiss me fur frog!). Some versions (such as the Australian tour edition) have their cover of Depeche Mode's Stripped which is a pretty rad cover and totally worth getting a copy of!
Lastly, the album artwork for this album is brilliant. Take things from the kitchen, and silver/white face paint and you get some wicked creepy portraits!
