King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black

The follow up to Lark’s Tongue in Aspic presents the same sound applied to a jazzier, more experimental tone. The normal songs are better thought out, and the instrumentals are further out. Because of this, it is a record of extremes.

Overall, I’d say this is better than the last album, opening with Great Deceiver, second only to Starless (ironically on the album Red and not this one) as the best individual track recorded by this line up, and within the top five King Crimson tracks of all time for me. The instrumental pieces really stand out this time, where they didn’t so much when I was in college for example. At this stage in my life Trio is beautiful rather than boring and Fracture is layered rather than lingering. It’s one of those times where you look back at your musical tastes and think: “how was I such an idiot?”

A lot of the other things I usually wank on about with these things was covered in last nights review, so here are some videos!
