Review# 53
Now we reach the finale, the build up, the suspense, all of that tension and what do we have? We have a pretty good album, it's a little anti-climactic after the intensity of the last album but that comes down more to the shiny-ness of the production and the band kinda sticking to a formula that works. But it is catchy and can make you, quite happily, sing along to what can be some rather horrid lyrics without a care in the world. Thinking about it there is something in having such a happy album that is really so morbid, if you pay attention to what you are singing along to then you may not be in such a good mood yet the music kind of demands that you are happy.
I think a couple of things that really bother me with the album is how it sits in context of the series; it doesn't feel like it's the end and it feels too radio friendly for all of the bloody murder that's going on. On one had I like the twist of happy sounding songs holding such murderous intent but there is something just too clean right through it that detracts from such a bloody ending, even toward the end where the music does get darker.
But if you look at No World as strictly a Rock album, ignore the part about it being the ending part of a five album concept series, and this is a very good album on it's own two legs. Yes it may be on the shiny side but hey. Musically it is catchy and still technically good and not to mention the hordes of rabid fans that flock to the Coheed And Cambria banner. So while it may not be what I want for the ending to this saga it is still a banging album, lets hope they don't completely bomb out on the prequel album....
