Clutch – Robot Hive/Exodus

Review# 14

Ahhh Clutch, this album is great, it makes you want to just sit in the sun and have a beer or too. And a bit of a sing-a-long. It makes you want to nod your head in time. This album is full of rock, groove and blues goodness.

The subject matter is quite serious though, covering things like religion, power, and well human kind in general. It often manages to come across as both relaxed and intense at the same time. Neil Fallon has great lyrics like: “Life inside the biosphere, dodecahedron fever's here. Sporting scarlet letters of genetic imperfection, dear. Love child in the reeds. Take a sample for the breed. Should have left him in the stream. Cooing at the smitten queen” That leave you with a sense of ambiguity and draws in for whatever message that may or may not be there.

While the entire album is solid some of my highlights are; Burning Beard, Gullah, Mice and Gods, 10001110101 and Circus Maximus. The album finishes up with a cover of Mississippi Fred McDowell's Who's Been Talking, which is a nice nod to their obvious Blues influence.

Enough waffle from me though, let the music speak!
