Review# 20
AngL is Emperor front man Ihsahn's 2nd solo album, it still has a very Black metal feel to it but also adds a bit more groove in places and is a a bit more accessible than some other extreme metal pieces. It has some fantastic guitar work on it and as usual Ihsahn's vocals are amazing as well as the lyrical work. I still love the opening line on album opener Misanthrope “Bring me my wine / and the head of the world / and I will drink to her demise!” now that's a good way to start an album!
Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt makes a guest appearance on Unhealer where there is some great sound dynamics between Mikael and Ihsahn's voices with the Death metal and Black metal influences standing starkly side by side as well as both showing off their clean singing abilities. I really have no gripes at all with this album, it is great from start to finish and is another one of those artists that take you on a journey and as any of you who read these (that's you Josh!) have probably noticed by now I love it when an artist draws you in that much.
